The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has decided not to renew the contract of men’s team head coach Monty Desai after his two-year tenure. ng his time, Desai led Nepal to their second appearance at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2024. Although the team did not win any matches in the tournament, they narrowly missed an upset against South Africa, losing by just one run.

Desai expressed gratitude to the Nepalese cricket community, highlighting memorable moments such as the Asia Cup qualification at TU Ground and the World Cup qualification in Mulpani. He praise the passion and resilience of Nepal’s fans and acknowledged the contributions of players, coaches, and officials.
CAN is now searching for a new head coach. One of the main goals for thin coming coach will to guide Nepal to a second consecutive T20 World Cup in 2026. To qualify, Nepal needs to finish in the top three at the 2025 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia–East Asia-Pacific Regional Final in Oman this October.
